The intense satisfaction that is embodied in the concept of “enjoyment” is dependent upon good mental energy reserves. Note the battery above at “full” charge status. The energy reserves are established by good sleep performance. Good sleep is also dependent upon adequate mental energy in order to support the brain in producing good sleep. When good sleep has re-established energy reserves to optimum level the pre-frontal cortex of the brain is able to maintain mood and avoid boredom and anxiety swings by stabilizing and supporting the brain’s ability to meet challenges.

Boredom

Our Point of View

Persistent stress drains mental energy at a rate that is greater than the rate at which energy is re-established. The result is the onset of mental fatigue. Note battery levels above, are dropping. Boredom is the first indicator that informs that mental energy reserves to the pre-frontal cortex are running low. The brain becomes restless in the presence of mental fatigue and the ability to remain interested in activities is diminished. If the circumstances allow, the brain will choose alternative low energy activities, while energy reserves are being built-up. If boredom is persistent concern rises!

Anxiety

Our Point of View

Persistent boredom that results when circumstances dictate that the pre-frontal cortex stay involved in boring activities (challenges) leads to concern on the part of the brain. Note that the battery continues to register less capacity as a metaphor that mental energy reserves are low. Since mental fatigue leads to boredom and persistent boredom leads to anxiety, the brain experiences instability in its capacity to act. Instability manifests itself in mood swings, agitation, irritability, impatience, frustration, anger and ultimately in depression.
