The brain uses pain sensory input as a means to manage the safety and well-being of the body systems. Studies inform us that the brain reacts differently to pain depending on the context of the pain itself. A brain that decides that the pain being experienced is worthwhile (good prospect potential) will react less intensely than a brain that concludes that the pain must be eliminated at any cost. So whether you have a highly reactive to pain brain or a low reactive to pain brain, you will need good to excellent mental energy reserves in order to regulate the brain’s response to the pain signal. Mental energy reserves are built-up and maintained fundamentally through good sleep performance. The key is understanding that good mental energy reserves are needed in order to sleep well.
